Description

A full-time position for a Research Technician (S) is available at the Primate Unit and Delft Animal Centre of the SAMRC

 

Responsibilities:

Provide animal care – feeding, watering, sanitation of animal rooms and cages including and not limited to removal/distribution of bedding, scrubbing, basic animal handling & health monitoring

Provide research support – record data

Work over weekends and after hours if required based on operational needs

Provide general assistance outside main key activities incl. receive/off load deliveries and general maintenance of cages and animal rooms, etc.

 

Core Requirements:

 

Grade 10

Willingness to learn new skills and knowledge

Availability to frequently work over weekends and after hours if required

Willing to undergo regular TB testing and required health checks

Strong empathy for animals

Speak and read English fluently

Good interpersonal and communication skills – a team worker

Self-motivated, attention to detail, meticulous

Good sense of responsibility and reliable

Code 8 driver’s license would be a recommendation

Advantageous:

 

1-2 years’ experience in animal care.

Note: A negative TB test is required before commencement of appointment. The appointment will be subject to a 6 months’ probation period.

 

A salary in the region of R119 952 per annum, cost-to-company.
